New Year, New Lesson

Life is an endless learning experience and I learned a brand new lesson today!

Big heavy floppy robes are like electric blankets. I never saw much use for them until I started visiting the vast tundra encrusted reaches of the Illinois winter wastelands. However, no matter how warm and fluffy my robe is I discovered it is about worthless for cooking in!

(Sorry ladies, I have my powerfully rippling keyboard muscles all covered up here. Bummer huh?) :) Like many things I tend to be a little anal about my garlic. I like it minced very fine so that the garlicky goodness permeates every molecule of the food!

So I have this nice little mound of garlic all finely minced up on the cutting board. I turn to get something and my big warm floppy sleeve gets drug right over the cutting board!

Would you believe that big sleeve absorbed about four cloves of garlic? Gone, just gone.

Oh, don't worry about the robe, I am sure that all the dunkings in the sink while I was washing dishes got it all cleaned up. (grrrrr)

you should invest in a microplane. Grate the garlic on the microplane over your pot of whatever. problem solved~! you can wear your robe AND cook! ;)

Big heavy floppy robes, are one thing in the midwest.

But big heavy floppy and PLAID robes.

Oh, Rob! Now that is hot.

That robe is all kinds of sexy. And garlic scented too? Makes a woman swoon...

Wow, I thought hot pants were pretty hot but I tell you, that plaid robe, it's sizzling. If you were my grandpa....;)

I agree with andie get a microplane, much easier.

Hehe yep. All the big chefs do it now. Robes with floppy sleeves.

I wonder what it's gotta be like to wear a floppy, electric blanket like robe that is garlic scented. I love garlic.

Well, interesting! I don't know if is just because I am male or if it's because I am nerd but until this day I never knew that a mere robe could even make a fashion statement one way or the other! I mean it's just a blanket you can wear, right and I never knew blankets had style before!

So I learned two new things now. I have a Grandpa robe! Suddenly I have the urge to stand on the front porch and yell, "You damned punk kids get out of my yard!" I might even buy a cane to shake at them!

Kat - I think you might have stumbled onto the next great invention for living here in the artic circle! An electric heated robe!

Yeah! I'd buy one!

Rob, I'm sorry to agree with the others, but plaid robes are not the way to go.

I sell Pampered Chef part-time and we have a great microplane grater (also useful for grating hard cheeses and zesting fruits). We also have a garlic press which is the BOMB! You don't have to peel or touch the garlic after it's grated so your hands (or robe in your case) never smell like garlic. I use both of those products just about everytime I cook. I'm not trying to sell PC products in your comments, but if you cook a lot and like minced garlic in stuff, you should look into buying these two products even if they aren't from PC. They will make your life much easier!

Don't take it personally, I meant it, my grandpa really did have a robe that looked like that ;)

No seriously... big heavy floppy plaid robes are hot.

Melissa - (and anyone else) I was not taking it personally. I just took it as some good-natured taunting which I do enjoy and take as a sign of friendship!

A garlic-scented robe is the perfect thing to keep vampires away. You're one step away from an amazing invention!

What? It's not sexy to smell like garlic? Being: 1. Italian American and 2. A professional chef-I think I'm destined to always be single!!!!!

Booooooooo

Mags - What? Yes, garlic smells good! For the life of me I can't understand how your #1 or #2 would drive anyone away! First off, every one knows Italians have the hottest blood and who would not want to be married to an awesome cook regardless of which sex?

I know I'm late to the party but how funny! I have learned I need to strip off the robe when I go to cook as my huge floppy sleeves get in the way of everything.
